레위기 영문성경으로 읽기

나는 지금 영어 성경 레위기 19장을 읽고 있다. 레위기가 27장으로 되어 있으니 나는 레위기의 절반을 훨씬 넘게 읽은 셈이다.
<내용의 개요>
제물과 희생에 관한 규정 1.1―7.36
제사장으로서의 아론과 그의 아들들의 성직수여 예식 8.1―10.20
의식의 청결과 부정에 관한 율법 11.1―15.33
속죄의 날 16.1―34
삶과 예배에 있어서의 거룩함에 관한 율법 17.1―27.34
오늘날에는 거행하지 않는 복잡한 의식에 대하여 읽는 것은 지루하다. 그래서 나는 예전에 성경을 읽을 때 결코 레위기를 읽지 않았다. 그런데 나는 이번에는 지루한 것을 느끼지 못하며 레위기를 읽었다.
그것은 내가 영어공부를 겸하여 아침 시간에 30분씩 그것을 읽기 때문이었을 것이다. 왜냐하면 책은 내용에 대한 흥미보다 영어를 익히는데서 느끼는 재미가 더 있었기 때문이다.
레위기에서 읽은 내용 중에 가장 흥미 있는 부분은 문둥병자에 관한 것이었다. 문둥병은 그들에게 큰 두려움의 대상이었으며 문둥병이 전염되는 것을 막으려고 애쓴 흔적이 많이 보인다. 한 가지 특이한 것은 옷이나 가죽이나 집에도 문둥병이 생기는 것이라고 믿는 것이었다. 그 시대에는 현대만큼 병균에 대한 의학지식이 발달하지 않았던 시대이기 때문에 생긴 잘못이었을 것이다.
사람의 죄를 없애기 위한 동물을 희생 제물은 다음과 같은 방식으로 제공되었다.
"다음으로 동물의 가죽을 벗겨서 그것을 잘라놓고, 사제는 제단 위에 장작을 준비할 것이고 그것에 불을 붙인다. 그들은 머리와 지방을 포함하여 동물의 고기 조각들을 불에 올려놓을 것이다. 그 사람은 내장과 뒷다리를 씻고, 집전하는 사제는 그 제물 모두를 불태울 것이다. 이 제물의 냄새는 하나님을 기쁘게 할 것이다." 1.6―1.9
오늘날의 관점에서 볼 때, 레위기에 나오는 의식과 율법은 상당히 우스운 것처럼 보인다. 그러나 모세의 시대에는 그것이 당연한 일이었을 것이다.

I am reading chapter 19 in the English Bible Leviticus now. I have read a lot more than half of the Leviticus, since there are 27 chapter in the Leviticus.

It is tedious to read about complicated rituals that are not celebrated today. So I did not read Leviticus when I read the Bible. But this time I did not feel bored and read Leviticus.
It would have been because I read it for 30 minutes in the morning as I study English. Because book was more fun in learning English than in interest about content.
The most interesting the part I've ever read in Leviticus was about the leprosy. The leprosy was a great source of fear for them, and there are many signs of trying to prevent leprosy from spreading. One peculiar thing was to believe that leprosy would occur in clothes, leather, and at home. It would be a occurred mistake because it was the age when medical knowledge about germs did not develop as in modern times.
The sacrifice of a animal to take away one's sins, it was offered next way.
"Then he shall skin the animal and cut it up, and the priests shall arrange firewood on the alter and light it. They shall put on the fire the pieces of the animal, including the head and the fat. The man wash the internal organs and the hind legs, and the officiating priest will burn the whole sacrifice on the alter. The odor of this food offering is pleasing to the Lord." 1.6―1.9
From today's point of view, the rituals and laws in the Leviticus seem quite ridiculous. In Moses' day, however, it would have been natural.
