성경 민수기 읽기

나는 지금 영어 성경 민수기의 16장을 읽고 있다. 민수기가 36장으로 되어 있으니 아직 나는 절반도 읽지 못한 것이다.
첫 번째 인구 조사에서 모세는 사람들을 등록했다. 병역에 적합한 20세 이상의 남자는 씨족과 가족에 따라 이름으로 등록되었다.
이스라엘의 인구는 603,500명으로 12개 씨족으로 구성되었다.
16장에는 다음과 같은 놀라운 이야기가 나온다.
레위의 손자 고라가 모세의 권위에 도전했다. 그에게 르우벤 족의 세 사람-다단, 아비람, 온-이 가담하고, 공동체에서 잘 알려진 지도자들로 250명이 가담하였다. 그런데 이들의 도전은 비참하게 끝이 났다.
모세의 말에 따라 주가 계시는 성막 앞에 모인 이들에게 하나님의 진노가 나타난 것이다. 다단 (Dathan)과 아비람 (Abiram) 밑의 땅이 갈라져서, 코라의 추종자들과 그들의 소유물들과 함께, 그들과 그들의 가족들을 삼켰다.
그래서 그들은 산채로 죽은 자의 세계로 내려갔다. 땅은 그들을 덮었고, 그들은 사라졌다. 그 다음에 여호와께서 타오르는 불을 보내어, 제단에 분향한 250명을 불태우셨다.
다음날 전체 공동체는 모세와 아론에 대해 불평하고 "당신들 주님의 백성 중 일부를 살해했습니다."라고 말했다. 주님은 모세에게 이렇게 말씀 하셨다. "내가 그들을 그 자리에서 멸하겠다."
주님의 분노가 일어나고, 전염병이 시작되었다. 이 전염병 때문에 코라의 반역으로 죽은 사람들을 제외하고도 14,700 명의 사망자가 발생하였다.
사실 우리는 이런 글을 통하여 구약 시대의 하나님이 신약시대의 하나님과 매우 성격이 다르다고 볼 수 있다. 구약시대의 하나님은 사랑과 오래 참으시는 하나님이시기보다는 잔인하고 독선적인 하나님이라고 볼 수도 있겠다.
당시의 신정 정치 모습은 오늘날의 민주주의 정치와 달랐다고 할 수 있다.
Reading the Bible Numbers

I am reading chapter 16 of the English Bible Numbers now. There are 36 chapters in Numbers, so I have not read half of them yet.
In first census, Moses registered the people. The man twenty years old or older who were fit for military service were registered by name according to clan and family.
The population of Israel was 603,500, consisting of 12 clans.
In charter 16 amazing story is contained.
Korah, the grandson of Levi, challenged Moses' authority. He was jointed by three member of the tribe of Reuben-Dathan, Abiram, On- and by 250 other Israelites, well-known chosen leaders by the community. But their challenge ended in misery.
According to Moses' words, the wrath of God appeared to those gathered at the Tent of the Lord's presence. The ground under Dathan and Abiram split open and swallowed them and their families, together with all of the Korah's followers and their possessions.
So they went down alive to the world of dead. The earth closed over them, and they vanished. Then the Lord sent fire that brazed out and burnt up the 250 men who had presented the incense at the alter.
The next day the whole community complained against Moses and Aaron and said, "you have killed some of the Lord's people." The Lord said to Moses, "I will destroy them on the spot."
The Lord's anger broken out and an epidemic has begun. Because of this plague, the number of people who died 14,700, not counting those who died in Korah's rebellion.
In fact, we can see that the Old Testament God is very different from the God of the New Testament. God of the Old Testament could be seen as a cruel and self-righteous God, rather than a loving and long-suffering God.
It can be said that the appearance of the theocracy of the time was different today's democratic politics.
