성경 민수기 읽기 2

민수기 25장에는 1)모압 여인들과 이스라엘 남자들 사이에 있었던 음행들에 대한 이야기로 시작하고 있다. 2)이 여인들이 그들을 제사에 초대하여, 그곳에서 모압의 신에게 예배하였다. 이스라엘 사람들이 음식을 먹고, 브올의 바알 신에게 예배하였다.
3)그래서 주께서 그들에게 화를 내시고 3)모세에게 말씀하셨다, “나에게 순종하여, 이스라엘의 모든 지도자들을 잡아다가, 백주에 저들을 처형하면, 그때에 내가 더 이상 백성들에게 화내지 않을 것이다.”
5)모세가 이스라엘의 사사들에게 말하였다, “ 너희들 각각은 너희의 종족 중 브올 바알의 예배자가 된 모든 자들을 잡아다가 죽이라.”
6)이스라엘 사람들 중 한 사람이 모세와 모든 군중 눈앞에서 미디안 여인을 자신의 텐트 안으로 데리고 왔는데, 그 때에 그들은 주의 성막의 텐트 입구에서 통곡하고 있었다.
7)제사장 아론의 손자 엘르아살의 아들 비느하스가 이것을 보고, 일어나서 회중 가운데서 떠났다. 창을 들고, 8)텐트 안으로 그 남자와 여자를 따라 들어가서 창으로 두 사람을 창으로 찔러 죽였다.
9)그러자 이스라엘을 파괴하던 염병이 그쳤으나, 10)그러나 이미 24,000명이 죽었다.
민수기 31장에는 이스라엘 인들이 미디안 인들을 공격하여 멸망시키고, 전리품을 나눈 것에 대하여 기록하고 있다.
그때에 모세는 군인들에게 남자는 어린이까지 다 죽이고, 여자도 남자와 동침한 적이 있는 자는 다 죽이고 숫처녀만 남기게 하였다. 그리고 다른 전리품처럼 처녀도 나누게 하였다.
*논평한다.
이스라엘 사람들에게 전염병이 돌아 많은 사람이 죽었을 때에 모세가 생각하는 전염병은 오늘날 우리의 생각과 매우 달랐다. 모세는 전염병이 병균 때문에 생기는 것이라고 생각하지 않고 백성들이 하나님께 죄를 범했기 때문이라고 생각했다.
그래서 전염병에서 백성을 구하기 위해서는 하나님께 죄를 범한 자를 찾아서 처단하는 것이었다.
비느하스가 아랍 여자와 함께 돌아온 한 이스라엘 남자와 아랍 여자를 창으로 찔러서 죽인 것은 그런 믿음 때문이었다. 죽은 자는 억울했겠지만 모세는 그런 방식으로 그의 지도자로서 권위를 유지하였다.
현대에 우리가 아는 전쟁과 비교하자면 모세 시대의 전쟁은 너무도 잔인했다. 사랑의 하나님께서 그렇게 잔인할 수 있는가?
어떤 사람은 성경에는 하나님이 하나님의 형상대로 사람을 만들었다고 하지만 사실은 사람이 사람의 형상대로 하나님을 만들었다고 하였다. 그렇게 생각한다면 모세의 하나님은 그 시대의 이스라엘 사람들의 성품대로 만들어진 하나님일 것이다.

Numbers chapter 25, paragraph 1) begins with a story of sexual intercourse between the Moabite women and the Israelite men. 2)These women invite them to the sacrificial feasts, where the god of Moab was worshiped. The Israelites ate the food and worshiped the god Baal of Peor.
3)So the Lord angry with them 4)and said Moses, "Take all the leaders of Israel and, obedience to me, execute them in the broad daylight, and then I will no longer be angry with the people."
5)Moses said to the officials, "Each of you is to kill every man in your tribe who has become a worshiper of baal of Peor."
6)One of Israelites took a Midianite woman into his tent in the sight of Moses and the whole community, while they were mourning at the Tent of the Lord' presence.
7)When Phinehas, the son of Eleazar and grandson of Aaron the priest, saw this, he got up and left the assembly. He took a spear, 8)follow the man and the women into the tent, and drove the spear though both of them.
9)In this way the epidemic that was destroying Israel was stoped, 10)but it had already killed twenty-four thousand people.
In chapter 31 of Numbers, It is recoded that the Israelites attacking the Midianites, destroying them, and sharing the loot.
Then Moses told the soldiers to kill every man including children and every woman who had slept with a man, and to leave only a virgin. And he made them share virgins like other loot.
*Making a comment
When the plague turned to the Israelites and many died, the plague that Moses thought was very different from what we think today. Moses did not think that the plague was caused by germs, but because the people sinned against God.
Therefore, to save the people from the plague, they were to find and execute those who sinned against God.
It was because of this belief that Phinehas pierced and killed an Israelite man and an Arab woman who had returned with an Arab woman. The dead would have been unfair, but Moses kept his authority as his leader in that way.
Compared to the wars we know in modern times, the wars of the Moses era were so cruel. Can the God of Love be so cruel?
Some people say that in the Bible God made man in God's image, but in fact man made God in man's image. If we think so, the God of Moses would be God made according to the nature of the Israelites of his time.
